Weekend National Hunt Early Preview PT 2

The competitive portion of the field is rounded out by the likes of Somersby and Twinlight. Somersby in particular looks to be an enticing wager as he has been finishing there-or-thereabouts pretty frequently and looks like he could be absolutely set for the breakthrough here. You’ll find him priced anywhere from 4/1 to 9/2 and his price could drift higher a bit if Sprinter Sacre gets hit hard by the punters during the build-up to the race. A good pre-race appearance could work in his favour.

The Stanjames Champion Hurdle Trial at Haydock Park is dominated by the presence of The New One as the Grade 2 contest looks to be virtually done-and-dusted at this point. He will be going into the race likely shorter than his current price of 1/6 and you can expect him to be a very popular addition to smaller accumulator tickets. 

He has hit three races on the bounce, winning them all by convincing margins and going off at odds-on in every single contest. He is set to continue his excellent partnership with Sam Twiston-Davies and there is little reason why he would lose this race unless he falls or takes a bad step or something. 

The challenge looks likely to come from the likes of Bertimont who doesn’t come into the race with a huge amount of form but he does boast a victory two-back at Chepstow when he got the better of a seven horse field in a Class 2 Handicap Hurdle. He was sent off at 12/1 that day and would have been a day-maker for many punters as he romped home by a full sixteen lengths. He’s been knocking around in Grade 2 races and managed a second place finish to Purple Bay at Wincanton but disappointed next out at Cheltenham.
