William Hill Haskell Invitational Betting Tips Part 3
- By A.J. Ryder on July 26, 2013 15:45 GMTOxbow has a legendary group of connections as the Calumet Farm-owned son of Awesome Again has been lying in wait for trainer D. Wayne Lukas since capturing the Grade 1 Preakness and coming in a tight second in the Belmont Stakes.
He ranks amongst the speediest of contenders and looks to be getting good at just the right time. He looks like he will be suited to the distance but the fact remains that he has never won at exactly 9 furlongs. He has always scored at just a bit more or just a bit less and you also have to wonder how he’s going to do if he tangles on the front end with Verrazano.

The way it looks right now, all of the three most favoured contenders all have similar types of running styles and, with a prominent speed bias in effect at Monmouth Park over the past few weeks, it could wind up either being a three-way duel or a complete and total pace meltdown - especially likely if it’s a hot day at the Jersey Shore this Sunday.
Oxbow can be backed at 5/2 and the wily presence of a resurgent Gary Stevens
Power Broker represents one of the most bankable angles in American Graded Stakes races - Bob Baffert shipping in to win the Haskell. The white-haired, perpetually sunglass’d Baffert has taken this race time after time and it looked as though he was actually going to skip this one before confirming that Power Broker would be pointed here in lieu of the Jim Dandy. He has acquired the services of Rosie Napravnik and has decided to leave Code West pointed at another race.
Baffert has a credible 32% record with shippers and Power Broker also flashed the best speed rating in his last contest when he captured in the Easy Goer with a frontrunning trip with Rosie in the irons that day. He is a 3/1 shot with the bookmakers right now and looks good value for the win despite his lack of back speed.
