Winter Derby Headlines Saturday's Scoop6

There's plenty of interesting angles in play for one of the better flat races you'll see this early in the season at fourteen are set to contest the 2012 iteration of the Blue Square Winter Derby. It is the fourth race on the Scoop6 card and the only Group or Graded contest on offer. Several listed races feature some high-class jumpers but this one serves as the stepping stone for a number of bigger names with eyes on much larger prizes.

The win fund will start at around £190,000 and the bonus fund begins at £500,000. Punters are estimating a combined windfall of £800,000 should somebody take both legs of the prize.

Premio Loco lines up for Chris Wall's yard as the top weight in this one with George Baker taking his usual place in the irons. Last season ended on a disappointing note for the eight-year-old son of Prized, finishing a rough seventh in a field of ten in the Group 3 Darley Stakes at Newmarket. Three weeks prior to that he had put in a good shift over the same surface at Group 2 level only to fall two lengths and a bit short.

Junoob has been active over the Lingfield all-weather fir quite sometime and is actually quite deep into his season. There's a lot to like about Tom Dascombe's gelding over this course and distance but the ability to tangle with higher-quality colts and geldings remains unproven. At one point he dropped to claiming level and has now bounced back to win and place at listed level. Progression seems likely as he's only been out 11 times and he could emerge as your nap for this one.

Cheltenham-placed Kentford Grey Lady runs in the second leg of the Scoop6 and is now reigning as a top weight in this listed contest. She looks the pick of the mares here but Lady Karabaya is in-form and get a nice weighting here as does A Little Swifter – though her victories haven't come at a level as high as Kentford Grey Lady.

The opener at Lingfield could be all about Kickingthelilly if she can handle the step up in grade. She only gets a few pounds on the more accomplished runners here, of which Gusto and Equation of Time look choice selections.

Borderlescott and Medicean Man throw a bit of a monkey wrench into your wagering for the 3 race on the Scoop6 card as, without their presence, Oasis Dancer would likely walk off with this one. Even Stevens could be dangerous and it all depends on what type of a day Tom Dascombe is having, you would suppose.

Mon Parrain ticks the boxes and should kick on pretty well for the fifth leg but you may want a saver in there as the Nicholls yard is a bit out of form at the moment. On Borrowed Wings scored last time out but have a gamble on Swincombe Rock who may have turned a corner and found the right spot and distance for the Twiston-Davies yard.

The final leg should be nicely set up for George Guru or Kingscroft.
