2015 Arlington Million Day Preview PT 1

While the track may not host a huge amount of major fixtures, one of the most exciting weekends of flat racing in the world happens each year at Arlington racetrack in Chicago as groups of talented European contenders ship across the pond to take on some of the more accomplished American turf runners in a high stakes day of racing at this beautiful suburban racetrack.

Having burned down to the ground (and still staged racing a few weeks later) back in the 1980s, this gleaming structure is unique in American racing due to its cleanliness and overall excellence in customer service and broadcasting.

Looking ahead to this excellent day of flat racing, we have a few big stakes that have seen ante post markets released. The Tuesday wagering is going to be fascinating because the American local morning lines will be released on Wednesday and this is likely to prompt some significant moves in the betting markets - particularly as the odds drop on the hot shot American contenders.

Last year was a fascinating iteration of the Arlington Million with the longest shot on the board - Hardest Core - able to pull off a massive coup at 33/1 prompting famous scenes in the winners circle as his owner - a young man with Downs Syndrome - etched his place in horse racing folklore alongside legendary owners and captains of industry whose charges have won the Million.

Since it launched in the early 1980s, this race has seen so many famous contenders line up in the gate for the venerable mile and a half tour around the tree-lined Arlington turf course. This year could very well produce another round of excellent and price-savvy results with so many potential winners lining up in virtually every single race on Million Day.
