2015 Belmont Stakes Betting Preview PT 1

It isn’t often that American thoroughbred racing fans get an opportunity to savour two Triple Crown attempts in as many years but 2015 has seen the emergence of American Pharoah and a second date with destiny at Belmont Park in New York. While some racing observers have commented that the Zayat-owned Baffert-trained bay colt hasn’t connected with the American public in the same way that the rags-to-riches story of California Chrome manage to capture hearts and minds last year, the truth is that there is a significantly better chance of the Triple Crown happening this year than last year.

Much is at stake here with a very talented group set to line up against the son of Pioneerof The Nile. American Pharoah has proven himself to be one of the most adept movers over a sloppy surface that we have seen in American racing in quite some time.

While his Kentucky Derby victory at Churchill Downs was trilling and well-deserved it was his incredible romp at Pimlico at the Preakness that really separated him from the chasing pack. A massive deluge happened shortly before the race with many jocks stating that it was the worst rainstorm they had ever seen.

In fact, hall of fame jockey Gary Stevens weighed in nine pounds over after the race and was literally able to pour about seven pounds of rain out of his boots. While thunder and lightning echo’d in the distance, the derby winner as as content as can be, thanks to being the only horse in the race that was wearing earplugs.

With the long-term New York City forecast showing the chance of rain and possibly thunderstorms that afternoon - things could be very interesting for the massive crowd expected at Belmont and the chance for that coveted Triple Crown. Expect his price to be very short if the track is listed as sloppy.
