Punchestown Festival Wednesday Betting Preview PT 2

Another De Bromhead charge, Sadlers Risk, lines up as the second favourite and he’s been taken into 9/2 from a 6/1 margin. His high-quality rating of 150 puts him head and shoulders above the rest of the competition on paper so anybody looking to beat Identity Thief will probably be looking here.

The third race is one of the feature contests with the Irish Daily Mirro Novice Hurdle. The talented Shaneshill gets the nod here with a very impressive combo of Ruby Walsh and Willy Mullins. He comes in off a blockbuster score in a Grade 2 at Fairyhouse last time out when he romped home by an impressive 13 length margin when sent off at 4/9.

He has only finished outside of the top two on one occasion and that was his debut point-to-pointing contest. Watch for Ruby to give him a great ride and get him home here - setting him up nicely for a big season next year.

The Punchestown Gold Cup runs as the next contest with a very talented group here set to contest the Grade 1 race. From the outset it looks like a straight-up shoot-out between Djakadam and Don Cossack with each of them lining up at a 5/2 margin and looking strong going forward. Djakadam comes in having just missed out on his last race which was none other than the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

He missed out on the day by a slim length and a half margin to Coneygree and had really excelled in the race prior to that when he romped at Gowran Park in a handicap chase by a whopping eight length margin against a deep field of 17. He was only sent off at 9/2 that day and was able to beat some real quality contenders. He lost his only ever effort at Punchestown but that came over hurdles so he looks to be very live for this contest.

There is also a Grade 1 bumper contest coming up after the Gold Cup and this one could be interesting with a number of talented entries in the mix. Disko looks to be the likely betting choice for this one but the Willy Mullins-trained Pylonthepressure remains undefeated and looms large at an enticing 6/1 price.
