Scoop6 January 28 Betting Preview Part 2

Captain Chris unseated Richard Johnson on his first effort of the year when sent out of the gate as a 2/1 favourite but he calmed himself down nicely to perform to expectations in the King George. Look for a slightly more aggressive ride this time – he will only go to the back if the pace up front is much too quick and you don't really expect it to be. He has a big opportunity here to set something up for himself in the Gold Cup and will do his ante post backers plenty of favours by taking this one emphatically.

Expect a tough challenge from Time For Rupert, who is similarly weighted. Tidal Bay could also be a serious factor and faces no weight penalty. He is going second off the lay-off and will likely have been pointed to this one by Nicholls & Co.

The 2:50 at Doncaster boasts several big contenders trying to take this 3m feature contest – the Sky Bet Chase. The top weights are all big names at Graded level with I'msingingtheblues, Calgary Bay, Aiteen Thirtythree and Shakalakaboomboom all in attendance. The really intriguing one appears to be Hold On Julio who has rattled off three wins in a row – capturing the 32Red Handicap Chase over the likes of Neptune Collonges on his seasonal debut just a few weeks back. Alan King's charge will have to progress but he looks ready to do so at this point and you can expect him to take money on the day.

Shakalakaboomboom has been a revelation this year with his first victory seeing him triumph over Knockara Beau at Cheltenham to take the Majormodo Hospitality Chase, a Grade 3 contest, coming in off the lay-off. Look for him to build on that and get things moving in a big way as he moves towards Cheltenham and, ultimately, Punchestown – which will likely be a big engagement for Nicky Henderson's charge.

The final leg of the day's Scoop6 is the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle which sees eleven contenders going 2m4f110y. Not a lot of big names on display in this one but they certainly all have the ability to make a statement here, for the most part. Broadbackbob shares the 11-12 top weight with Forgotten Gold and Knight Pass. Look for Hawk Mountain to kick on and maybe make an impression here. Well-bred and relatively sharp this year, he should progress nicely and show more than he did last time when beaten six lengths at Market Rasen. Alan King's bottom weight Secret Edge is only four years old but still has shown plenty of jumping acumen – already capturing two from five hurdles contests and never finishing off the board.
