1ST EU PRESIDENT LATEST BETTING ODDS
Tony Blair looks to be getting further and further away of his dream of EU Presidency. The former British Prime Minister had been leading the odds in the 1st President of the EU Council betting market on Ladbrokes for quite some time, but he is now a clear second place behind Herman Van Rompuy.
The Belgian Flemish president of Belgium, Van Rompuy is trading at 3.0 on Ladbrokes, a full point and a bit ahead of Tony Blair who is listed at 4.33 from his lowest price of 2.75. His odds appear to be lengthening by the day.
Jan-Peter Balkenende was considered a very strong contender and he remains in the running at 7.0 alongside Jean-Claude Juncker. Paavo Lipponen remains in the running at 9.0, but that is more or less the write-off point at the moment.
You'll find a large concentration of candidates between 11.0-21.0. Fredrik Reinfeldt and Wolfgang Schussel are sitting at 11.0 while Francois FIllon and Guy Verhofstadt are both available at a 15.0 price. Felipe Gonzalez and Martii Ahtisaari are both listed at 17.0 while John Bruton and Vaira Vike-Freiberga round out the list of plausible candidates at 21.0.
Mary Robinson and Poul Nyrup Rasmussen are both priced at 26.0 with Fogh Rasmussen at 34.0. Bertie Ahern and Chris Patten share a 51.0 price while Dora Bakoyannis, Giuliano Amato and Ursula Plassnik are sitting at 67.0. The also-rans are Angela Merkel, Costas Karamanlis, Gordon Brown, Paddy Ashdown and Vaclav Havel who are all at lengthy 101.0 prices.
