2009 Australian Open Quarter Finals Betting
With Andy Murray crashing out of the men's tournament in spectacular fashion against Fernando Verdasco, the betting action is now wide open at the 2009 Australian Open. A number of top names remain in the final 8 attempting to battle it out for the semi-finals. It is truly anyone's tournament at this point with everybody knowing that even the top favourites could be in jeopardy if any slip-ups occur. Andy Roddick takes on Novak Djokovic and Djoko is the outright favourite listed at 2-5 contrasted to Roddick's 7-4. I feel as though Djokovic is favoured a little too heavily and I would have thought the bookmakers would go somewhere in the market of 4/5 to 6/5. I would suggest you back Roddick in this one if you're looking at outright betting and I'm also convinced that even if Andy loses this one, it will still be close. Back a 3-2 Djokovic win at 4-1 with Paddy Power if you think Novak will pull off the victory. I expect Roddick to put in an epic performance. Roger Federer is the favourite going into his match against Del-Potro and I'm looking at a 3-1 Federer victory here. The bookmakers favour straight sets, but I can see Roger dropping an early set. He is 1-5 to win outright and it will be a major upset should be fail to get a result. Rafael Nadal faces off against Giles Simon in his quarter-finals encounter listed as the heaviest favourite out there. Heavily favoured to win in straight sets (4-9) you really can't see anything but a Nadal victory here. I don't see much value, especially at 1-20 outright, so I say plunk a few quid down on Simon to win 3-2 at 20-1 otherwise you likely won't be cashing in much on this match. Jo Tsonga takes on Andy Murray's vanquisher Fernando Verdasco as the 2-5 favourite. Verdasco achieved some incredible results thanks to his precision serving in the previous round and I have a feeling that he is more than capable of pulling off the upset. Andy Murray is a better tennis player than Jo-Wilfred Tsonga and 7-4 just enough to convince me to have a bash on Verdasco.
