2009 BELMONT STAKES BETTING TIPS
Mine That Bird continues to lead the field for the 2009 running of the Belmont Stakes. Priced at evens in the UK antepost markets, Calvin Borel and his prodigious gelding plan on making Borel the first person to win all three Triple Crown races on multiple horses in a single season.Popular UK bookmaker Stan James is offering up each-way odds of 1/5 on places 1, 2 and 3. This makes Mine That Bird a straight win selection- you won't make too much cash with him on an each-way if he fails to win. Charitable Man has been tipped as the early pace setter and while many would be likely to back this horse given the surface they'll be competing on, Mine That Bird is such a huge variable with his late-breaking charges down the back stretch that Charitable Man's price is perhaps a tad higher than it should be. 3/1 would be more than enough for me and I'd tempted to have an each-way punt at 7/2. The only issue is whether the horse can handle this distance- I don't think conditions on the ground will be as detrimental as they were in the previous two outings. Dunkirk was tipped by many to be the early Kentucky Derby favourite, but his deplorable showing that day sent his owners back to the drawing board to figure out what to do with this multi-million dollar flop. Truth be told, I think he has an excellent shot at winning the Belmont Stakes and shares a 7/2 pricetag with Charitable man. After these three (who represent an excellent triactor box possibility) You've got Chocolate Candy and Summer Bird (my pick for the rest of the field) at 14/1 with Flying Private and Mr Hot Stuff listed at 20/1. Miners Escape comes in at 33/1 with Brave Victory available at 40/1. Nowhere to Hide is listed at 50/1 while Luv Gov brings up the rear at 66/1.
