2009 BREEDERS CUP JUVENILE TIPS AND SELECTIONS
Bob Baffert puts his widely-regarded Lookin At Lucky up to the test in this $2,000,000 Grade 1. The two year-old bay colt is trading at a slim 8/5 in the morning line and a lengthy Betfair price of 4.5. He's undfeated and boasts a Grade 2 and two Grade 1 victories- all on west coast tracks. He's sure to attract plenty of attention and even the lucky #13 stall isn't putting the punters off at this point. D'Funnybone is one of my personal favourites and he's boastsing an excellent Betfair price of around 6.4 and an ML of 5/2. He's out of Elbow by the popular D'Wildcat and he brings in a 1211 record on the year with victories in two Grade 2 races where he bested Discreetly Mine and Zip Quik. I like D'Funnybone's style and with experienced jockey Edgar Prado taking the stick, I think this is a winning combination. Other contenders for this race include Aikenite- a horse I've put some faith in and been disappointed by in the past. I think the issue with Aikenite is that he was jumped straight from a maiden break to Grade 1 action, he performed admirably against very large fields of 12 and 14, so I don't know if you can fault him as much as the connections. He's a very solid-looking bay colt and will be coming out of the middle of the pack. He is trading at around 11.0 on Betfair and commands an 8/1 ML price. Betting on two year-olds is always wide-open, but I think your winner comes from these three. If you're looking for a truly outside option, I suggest backing Radiohead at 15/1 ML and 17.5 on Betfair. Looking at this field right now, I wonder how many will be present for next year's Kentucky Derby and Triple Crown race.
