2009 BRITISH OPEN OUTRIGHT BETTING TIPS
Top UK bookmaker William Hill has put together a very solid smattering of odds for this week's widely-anticipated 138th Open at Turnberry. Tiger Woods is looking for his fourth win since returning from injury in February and you really have to reckon he's in contention to bring home that 15th major championship. You'll find Woods at 9/4 with Hills, generally the most dramatically underpriced player in every game. I always consider Woods at better than 2/1 to be a decent bet, but you can't back him each-way and get any value there. Luckily, William Hill has a pile of other exciting betting markets that take Tiger out of the equation entirely. In terms of the outright betting, Sergio Garcia is the second favourite at 20/1 while Lee Westwood shares a 25/1 listing with the dramatically under-priced Rory McIlroy. I don't think McIlroy has a real chance at winning this one and surely the low price is reflective of the patriotic bets that all UK bookmakers are expecting. Ian Poulter shouldn't exactly be 28/1 either. Martin Kaymer, Padraig Harrington and Paul Casey are all even with Poulter. Other notables include Jim Furyk at 33/1, Ernie Els and Retief Goosen at 40/1, Geoff Ogilvy at a very enticing 45/1, David Toms at 80/1, Mike Weir and David Duval share a 100/1 price. Billy Mayfair and Nick Faldo are both at 500/1. You can really cash in on some of these high-performing long-odds selections by backing them each way at 1/4 of the odds on the first five places. I like Tiger on the outright but I'm also looking at David Duval who looks to be back in form and I am all over Geoff Ogilvy at 45/1.
