2009 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE BETTING TIPS FOR FEBRUARY 24 AND 25
Arsenal vs Roma
Despite some real struggles in the league for Arsenal this year, they remain favourite to secure a home win against AS Roma during Tuesdays Champions league fixtures. Listed on Blue Square at evens to win compared to Roma's 3/1, you really have to wonder whether Arsene Wenger's men will be able to score goals. The draw is listed at 23/10 and it actually looks fairly good to me.
I think that Arsenal will know that they need a win to take to Italy, but things could be very complicated. According to the bookies, 1-0 (6/1) to Arsenal and 1-1 (6/1) are the most likely outcomes with 0-0 (15/2) not far off. Keep your eyes on Van Persie and Nasri to score at 11/8 and 3/1, respectively.
Inter Milan vs Manchester United
This is the titanic clash of the current crop of fixtures with arguably the two most dominant, and influential, managers in the modern day game going head to head in the Champions League for the first-time since a certain Portuguese manager's famous run down the touchline. Inter Milan are the slight 7/5 favourite to secure a home victory against the Old Trafford outfit with the fact that both of these teams are currently topping their leagues being a real wildcard in terms of the wagering action on this match.
You have to ask yourself, is a 12 point lead in the Serie A equivalent to a 7 point lead in the English Premier League? United will have issues in central defence and I can see Fergie playing three at the back with two holding midfielders (likely Carrick and Anderson) providing extra stability. I have a feeling that Jonny Evans will be passed fit and I am interested to see how he copes with Adriano as Rio will likely be facing off against Big Zlatan Imbrahimovic. The bookies say the likeliest outcome is a 1-1 draw (11/2) which would likely suit Sir Alex Ferguson just fine.
Chelsea vs Juventus
Chelsea are definitely the outright favourites going into this match, listed at 5/6. Juventus are sitting at 7/2 with the draw listed at 12/5. The most likely scoreline appears to be Chelsea 1-0 which is listed at 5/1. The draw and a Chelsea 2-0 are both listed at 7/1 with 1-1 draw sitting at 11/2. I have a feeling that Drogba and Anelka will partner each other in attack here and I can see the Italians digging in for this.
They will simply be trying not to concede and that involves a lot of nice, tight marking at the back and they will have to battle Chelsea in the midfield as well and try to keep them from stringing much together going down the flanks. Wright-Phillips could be key for Chelsea in this fixture. The best bet here is in the Half-time/Full-time markets where Chelsea/Chelsea pays out at 21/10.
Real Madrid vs Liverpool
After Liverpool absolutely destroyed Betis on the weekend, scoring 6 goals in the first half, you have to wonder what Rafa Benitez plans to do. Failure to take maximum points from this game could put serious question marks over his future, especially as news emanates that he has turned down his fourth straight contract offer from the Liverpool management.
Madrid are listed at evens to secure the victory on home soil with the Reds at 3/1. The draw is listed at 23/10 and I think that is likely Rafa's best option. Barring an exceptional performance by Fernando Torres, Liverpool will be relying on Real to make mistakes, and while that has been a very distinct possibility in the past, I think Real will be on song here. Liverpool are not in a good place right now.
