2009 GLORIOUS GOODWOOD BETFAIR CUP BETTING TIPS
We have a real classic on our hands tomorrow at 3:25 in the 2009 Betfair Cup. There's plenty of equine excitement in the other races on the card, but the 7 furlong dash looks set to be a real contest pitting Sir Michael Stoute's Main Aim against De Kock's JJ The Jet Plane. JJ The Jet plane has had a mixed year that started in February at Nad Al Sheba in Dubai where he triumphed in the Group 3 Al Quoz Sprint where he bested a field of 10. He made it two from two at Windsor on June 1st winning the Up Up And Away Stakes against a solid six. Since then he's been 4th in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Ascot and third in the July Cup. You'll find JJ currently listed at around 3/1 with most major bookmakers. Main Aim ran in the July Cup as well and finished 2nd to an impressive Fleeting Spirit. He was also beaten in the Queen Anne Stakes by Paco boy. He did triumph in the John of Gaunt Stakes and the Berry Bros and Rudd Handicap, which was his season opener. Main Aim is just above evens across the board with 5/4's and a few 11/8's. Ouqba is another to take a look at and he is a bit of a value bet here at 11/2 or 5/1. Ouqba took the Group 3 Jersey Stakes on June 17th and hasn't run since. He's been up against some intense competition so far this year and is 2 from 3 with a previous victory at Newmarket in April in the Betterbet European Free Handicap. Ouqba is a closer in the truest sense of the word and I expect him to position himself just outside the rail to make a charge in the final furlong. I think he's a solid each-way bet. This horse has an international pedigree and comes out of the Al Maktoum system. Finjaan's season was left in disarray after a ninth place finish at the 2000 Guineas. You'll find him anywhere from 9/1 to 12/1. Dream Easter is an interesting contender and looks a worthy candidate for a place bet if any mistakes are made by the favourites. You'll find him at 14/1 with most bookmakers. Balthazar's Gift is an experienced runner and that could factor into the equation. If you're looking for a long-odds pick here, I would suggest you jump all over Balthazar's Gift. He won in Dubai this winter and could be a top 3 call should things pan out correctly. He's around 16/1 currently. Regal Parade doesn't catch my eye at 16/1 and Express Wish may see a few flutters at 33/1 while Asset looks doubtful for this one, but likely would have made it an interesting competition.
