2009 GREAT VOLTIGEUR YORK EBOR BETTING TIPS
The 2:50 from York on Tuesday looks set to be an outright duel between Alwaary and Harbinger. The favourite is the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Harbinger who comes in with a price of 7/4 against Alwaary's 2/1. I expect a few fluctuations and wouldn't advise against betting on starting price as I know we'll see a drift upwards for one of them. We've got seven quality runners contesting this field and my eye was drawn to the 5/1 Father Time who will run from the #1 position. He hasn't finished outside the money at any point this season and this will be his return to action after scoring at the King Edward VII Stakes at Ascot in June. He's a real progressive horse and will have Eddie Ahern on top again for this ride. Saeed Bin Suroor's Mastery is at 11/1 and I'm a bit unconvinced about him, and his trainer's record at York. Jukebox Jury is listed at 13/2 and I can see why punters would have confidence here, but the value to form ratio just doesn't really pan out for me. The long shots in this race are Above Average and Monitor Closely at 40/1 and 33/1, respectively. There's plenty of money to be made in this race and while I'm a fan of the two favourites, I'm going to be tipping Father Time to spring an upset in this one. I'm backing him at 5/1 and at SP, as I think he will drift upwards as money piles onto the two favourites.
