2009 MEN'S WIMBLEDON OUTRIGHT BETTING TIPS

Since Rafael Nadal announced to the tennis world that he would not be defending his 2008 Wimbledon title, the betting markets have been in absolute turmoil. Now that the action has started, we can see that Roger Federer is the firm favourite to win, listed at an odds-on price of 8/11 against a massive field. Scotland's Andy Murray is the clear second favourite, carrying a 9/4 price, with Novak Djokovic listed at 10/1 for the outright win. Jo-Wilfried Tsonha is 16/1 while Andy Roddick can be backed at 18/1. Juan-Martin Del Potro is 20/1 and the odds take a big jump after him with Fernando Verdasco and French Open runner-up Robin Soderling both listed at 40/1. Tommy Haas is 50/1 while Lleyton Hewitt is 66/1. Other notables include Gilles Simon at 150/1, Nokolay Davydenko at 100/1 (that's high), with Marat Safin and David Ferrer at 200/1. Currently, Paddy Power is paying out each-way odds of ½ on the top two places, so you can back somebody at half their listed price and get paid out if they make the final. This is a great way to find value with the longer odds players and betting a slate of possible contenders at this stage in a major championship is a great way to make some excellent money. If Federer slips up and some of your contenders are still in it, you'll be in absolute cruise control in terms of price. With a field this large, I can definitely see it happening! In terms of today's match-betting, Verdasco goes into his match with James Ward as a strong 1/25 favourite against Ward's 8/1. The odds are identical for Tommy Haas in his match against Peya today at 6 pm. Bartoli is 1/7 against YJ Chan at 4/1. Every single match of the 2009 Wimbledon tournament will be available for live betting at Paddy Power with dozens of markets available on each game. If Andy Murray's going to pull it off this year, I think it will be here. His price doesn't command much value and I really expect Federer to put in a strong tournament. If you're looking to profit on the outright market, you'll need a big bet each-way on Andy Murray and I'd back five other players at 20/1 or above to make it to the final.
