2009 NEWMARKET CHAMPIONS DAY BETTING TIPS

We have several very high-profile races kicking off at Newmarket on Saturday. We'll be taking a look at the favourites and trying to spot a bit of value in each of the major races of the festival.
In the 1:50 Challenge Stakes, we have Ashram as the competitive favourite. He comes in off two wins on the bounce with victories in the Dubai Duty Free Cup and the European Breeders Fund Condition Stakes. He performed poorly in the 2000 Guineas but the sheer fact that he was there tells you something. He is 7/2 with Ladbrokes and I've got my eye on Ouqba, who defeated Ashram several months back in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes. He's got several career victories at Newmarket and I think the Al Maktoum group could start the day with a very solid outing. Ouqba is 6/1 with Ladbrokes.
In the 2:25 Dewhurst, Chabal is a very solid favourite over Steinbeck. Chabal, a lightly-raced Irish 2 year old boasts a 1-2 career record with the win coming over a field of 14 at Leopardstown. The second place finish came in the Group 1 Vincent O'Brien National Stakes against a very solid field. I think this is one of the bankers of the day and I fancy Chabal to take this one in stride. Keep your eye on High Twelve at 10/1 as well.
The 3:00 Champion Stakes are going to be the highlight of the day for many with Fame and Glory well-fancied to beat out tough competition from Sariska. These are two impressive horses and I expect a duel down the stretch between the two. Fame and Glory is available at 6/4 while Sariska is listed between 9/2 and 5/1. Fame and Glory had a poor outing at the Arc De Triomphe and has been bested by Sea the Stars several times this year. This is his first time since June not running against Sea the Stars, and I'm wondering whether a lengthy season could come back to bite him here. Sariska is a filly who has a number of Grade 1 wins under her belt this season. I think it's either going to be Fame and Glory first, by quite a distance or he'll come in dead last. I like Sariska on the each-way here.
We have a massive field for the 3:40 Cesarewitch with Darley Sun being thes tand-out favourite at 13/2. There is an absolutely huge glut of horses all between 12/1-20/1 and this one is really anyone's guess. I'm going to have a bash on Fair Along, a 7 year-old Kraut trained by PJ Hobbs. He doesn't boast the best record, but he's gritty as all hell and I think he can grind out a victory here at 14/1.
