Popular UK bookmaker William Hill has listed Werder Bremen as the very slight favourite to win the 2009 UEFA Cup over Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk in Istanbul this Wednesday. Werder are listed at 13/8 compared to Donetsk's 7/4. The draw is available at 21/10 and I wouldn't rule out extra time here, especially if Shakhtar can maintain the defensive solidity that's carried them to the final. The most likely correct score is a 1-1 draw at 6/1. A 1-0 margin to Bremen would would pay out at 8/1 compared to Shakhtar's 1-0 which pays 9/1. I think this one will likely be tight, especially in the first half. I think 0-0 at half-time is a very plausible bet, but if you need a first half goalscorer selection I'd get behind Torsten Frings, possibly from a freekick, and he carries a 14/1 price to score first. For the record, Luiz Adriano and Claudio Pizarro both share the same 2/1 price for anytime goalscorer. Neither of those are particularly good bets. I think the first goal is going to come from a defensive mistake more than stellar attacking play and I'm just not 100% convinced which team it will be. If you're looking for some value, but still looking for a plausible payout, I'd back a 2-1 result each-way at 9/1. Also, Draw/Werder Bremen is available at 5/1 and thats an extremely plausible scenario.
