2010 ACADEMY AWARDS LATEST ODDS AND NOVELTY BETS
One of my favourite parts of wagering at the 2010 Oscars is going to be taking advantage of all the special bets and side wagers that you can make with various bookmakers. Last year, I cleaned up because nobody accepting a major award shed a visible tear. At a 4/1 payout, it turned out to be a masterstroke and when Kate Winslett's voice started to shake when she accepted her best actress award I thought everything was going pear-shaped. However, she persevered and managed to save the bet for me. It was one of the most nerve-wracking moments in my betting career.
Anyways, onwards and upwards to the 2010 Oscars Novelty bets market. One of the biggest things we always pay attention to are the dresses worn by the female celebs and you can actually bet on the manufacturer of the dress for the Best Actress winner. As it currently stands, Alexander McQueen (tear) trades at 7/4 to be the name on the tag of the best actress winner.
The heavy betting favourite for Best Actress is Sandra Bullock and she already wore McQueen to the SAG Awards, so would she be willing to wear the same designer twice in a season? She also wore Bottega Veneta to the Golden Globes. Instyle Magazine predicts that Bullock would do well to wear a number by Armani Prive.
Meryl Streep is also in the running and Instyle predicts that she will wear Valentino (which pays 18/1). She has already worn Balenciaga to the SAG Awards.
Oscar de la Renta is listed at 8/1 while a Lanvin dress on the winner pays 10/1. Alberta Ferretti and Bettaga Veneta are at 12/1. Chanel trades at 14/1 while Chris March may not be a bad bet at 16/1. Giorgio Armani and Nina Ricci are both priced at 16/1. Christian Lacroix and Jason Wu both reward at 18/1. Other notables include Gucci and Vera Wang at 25/1 and Marc Jacobs at 40/1.
The other novelty bets include the Best Male Actor to cry during his acceptance speech at 3/1. A visible tear must be shed and at 3/1 I don't really see this one as too likely. Jeff Bridges will likely be in good spirits and won't get all weepy. I'd steer clear of that one.
If anybody drops an Oscar statue on stage during the handover, you're looking at an 8/1 payout, while any actor to trip and fall on stage pays 101. If any actor or actress says the words "Tiger Woods" in their speech, they're looking at 10/1. If anybody goes on to beat the record for a lengthy Oscar speech (which is 5 minutes and 30 seconds if I recall correctly) you've got a 12/1 payout.
A nominated actress to be photographed in a Janet Jackson-style wardrobe malfunction pays off at 14/1 while a streaker to appear on stage during the ceremony (must be fully nude) pays a solid 100/1.
