2010 AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS OUTRIGHT ODDS AND GROUP BETTING
The African Cup of Nations is almost upon us and the first match kicks off in just a few days time on January 10th. 888sports has released some stellar odds for this widely-anticipated tournament and it’s important to keep in mind that a good performance from one of the tournament favourites- Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Ghana, will likely trigger a price drop for their 2010 World Cup odds. Realistically, I think Ivory Coast are the only ones with a remote chance of winning the World Cup, but an African side winning it on African soil does make for a hell of a story.
Regardless, Ivory Coast are very strong favourites to win the 2010 African Cup of Nations. 888 has them listed at a 9/4 price while Cameroon are considered the second-place favourites at 9/2. Ghana trade just behind them at 5/1 and then we have Egypt and Nigeria deadlocked at 8/1. Tunisia, a quality side, are listed alongside World Cup challengers Algeria at a 14/1 listing. Mali can be backed at 20/1 along with Angola.
The long shot options include Gabon at 33/1, Togo at 50/1, Burkina Faso at 66/1 and Benin trading at 80/1. Zambia is listed at a lengthy 100/1 while Mozambique and Malawi bring up the rear at 150/1. You can get 1/2 odds on an each-way bet (effectively backing the team to make the final).
In terms of the Group Betting, Group A looks to be the most open with Algeria trading at 13/10, Angola at 15/8 and Mali at 12/5. Malawi is a distant favourite at 20/1. Group B looks to be Ivory Coast’s to win and they are odds on, at 8/13, to do so. Ghana trades at 6/4 while Burkina Faso and Togo are both trading at 18/1. The Ivory Coast/Ghana fixture in this group could be the preview of a potential final.
Nigeria are at evens to win Group C while Egypt are just a step behind at 11/10. Benin trades at 10/1 while Mozambique is a lengthy 18/1. Group D is all Cameroon and they are 8/13 to pull off a group victory. Tunisia is well-priced at 12/5 while Gabon is 7/1 and Zambia is 12/1.
