2010 ARC DE TRIOMPHE ANTEPOST BETTING SELECTIONS

We’ve got a real showdown ahead of us in the 2010 Arc De Triomphe at Longchamp and you can certainly take advantage of some solid antepost prices as we’re less than a week away from the off.
As it currently stands, Behkabad (Cape Cross) is the lukewarm betting favourite with a 7/2 price at most major bookmakers. The Rouget-trained colt has been in solid form this season, running 31411, and boasts an undefeated record over the Longchamp surface. He took his first Group 1 score back in July when he captured the Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris. He is solid at the distance and he will look to stalk the leaders early on and attempt to deploy that tactical speed around the final furlong. Very dangerous.
Fame and Glory (Montjeu) is a seasoned pro and one of the best four year-olds in AP O’Brien’s yard. He’ll be looking for his fifth group-level score of the year and his running style is quite similar to Behkabad and you sort of wonder whether they might take each other out of contention by opening up a pace that might be just a bit too hot. You know Fame and Glory will be a popular option, especially for the Irish punters. You can back him at a 9/2 price.
Sir Michael Stoute’s Workforce (King’s Best) made a major splash in the Epsom Derby but came up short in the King George VI when sent off as the odds-on favourite. He’ll need to stay towards the back here and avoid getting caught up in a pace duel with either Behkabad or Fame and Glory. He blew it at Ascot back in July because he got up front too early and was beaten by a number of fresher horses. If Ryan Moore can keep him contained early on then the early speed here could wind up working in his favour. He’s priced at around 5/1.
These are the firmest favourites out there but there is still plenty of talent in this race as we await the final declarations. St Nicholas Abbey (Montjeu) hasn’t really lived up to the high-expectations he had on him going into the 2000 Guineas. He could wind up running here and you can back him at a price hovering around 16/1- expect him to drop below 10/1 should be confirmed.
Cape Blanco (Galileo) is well-priced at around 8/1 for this race and virtually all Galileo’s have been running extremely well this season and his score in the group 1 Irish Champion Stakes was a very thorough victory. He will be looking for that elusive first victory on the continent.
Last year’s runner up, Youmzain (Sinndar) was well-beaten by the legendary Sea the Stars (Cape Cross) and he’s expected to give it a go here, but the simple fact of the matter is that this horse simply doesn’t win very often, despite putting in some solid performances. The 16/1 price on him looks to be a bit short.
