2010 CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL DAY TWO TIPS FOR IRISH HORSES ON SAINT PATRICKS DAY
Since the punters didn't exactly have the luckiest day during the opening phase of the 2010 Cheltenham Festival, I think we stand a good chance of seeing a bit more profit if we bank on the luck of the Irish. Cheltenham and Saint Paddy's day go hand in hand and if you're looking to stack a few bets on the Irish you've got plenty of excellent selections.
The big races on day two are the RSA Chase and the Queen Mother Champion Chase. While Punchestowns is the most Irish name this side of Forpadydeplasterer, he was actually born in France so that leaves us with Diamond Harry for the 2010 RSA Chase. Nick Williams gelding brings some solid form into the equation with two wins on the bounce, one of which was a Grade 2 at Haydock. He ran third to Big Bucks in the
Long Walk Hurdle and I think thats a pretty good reference. You'll find him at 6/1 or 13/2 with most major bookmakers. Weapons Amnesty is another Irish selection and he's trading at 7/1.
The big favourite for the 2010 Queen Mother Champion Chase is Master Minded, who also boasts a French lineage. He's a justifiable favourite, but we found out on day one just how much well-fancied favourites can come up short. If you're looking to go Irish in the Queen Mum, you seriously can't look anywhere else than the well-monikered Forpadydeplasterer. This hard-working bay gelding is bit of a shout out to all working class Irish folk and I expect him to be well-backed. If the luck of the Irish is showing up today, it's showing up Forpady. He's only had two outings this year, both 2nd place finishes against small fields of highly-competitive jumpers. I think he could pull a Binocular and put on a real show, especially if Master Minded just doesn't quite show up. Forpadydeplasterer trades at a very solid 10/1.
Nicky Hendersons Finians Rainbow is representing the green fields of Eire and he's a strong contender for the Neptune Novices Hurdle, which opens the day. I've tipped Reve De Sivola for this one, but there's something about that Finians Rainbow that may help punters find their way to a pot of gold. He's a strong third favourite ahead of Peddlers Cross and trades at 6/1 with most major bookmakers.
A solid Irish selection, Quantitativeeasing, brings form of 1112 into the 2010 Coral Cup and he's considered a slim favourite in a very wide-open field at a price of 8/1. If you're taking advantage of Paddy Power's Fallers Insurance for this race (check out their site to find out more) you may want to have a look at On Raglan Road who trades at 16/1. He's saddled up against first-rate competition and would likely boast some good form if it wasn't for a few falls this year. For the price, he's definitely worth a shot.
In the 2010 Fred Winter, we have Jonjo O'Neill's higly-rated 4 year-old Open Day who has raced four times in 2010 alone with form of 9211 from just the past two and a half months. I'm not sure if that works against him or not, but he's looking for three on the bounce and comes in at 10/1 against a 9/2 favourite.
In the 2010 Champion Bumper, we have a difficult to handicap wide open field, but I think the Irish fans may skew towards co-2nd favourite Drumbaloo who trades at 8/1. He's 4 wins from 5 lifetime runs and his only error was a fall in his first ever race. There are some real up and coming selections on offer here, but I think this could be a real feather in the Irish cap.
