2010 CORAL ECLIPSE BETTING TIPS AND LATEST SELECTIONS

We've got a handful of quality contenders set to do battle for the 2010 Coral Eclipse at Sandown racecourse at 3:10 on Saturday. There are a few different directions that this race could go in and it will be vert interesting to see how these horses stack up against each other. I think Dar Re Mi (Singspiel) is going to be the key variable here and the filly could be shaping up to push the boys all the way.

Dar Re Mi is a multiple Group 1 winner and globetrotting turf runner that has run against the top fillies and mares at her level for her entire career. She has been off since opening her annual account with a Group 1 victory in the Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan. I was watching that day and it was a textbook victory. To think that was her seasonal debut is really quite something. I think she's a massive contender here and definitely looks the business. She's currently listed at 11/4 with William Hill.
Twice Over (Observatory) is the current betting favourite with a 2/1 price. I think his second place finish to Byword two and a half weeks ago at Ascot may have taken a bit out of him and I'm interested to see how he will stack up once things get going here. I think he was really pushing it towards the end there in a futile effort to get home and I think the mid-race period is the big issue here for Twice Over. He's priced short and I think he needs things to go his way a bit more than I'd like- I would prefer a contender that can dictate the terms.
Additionally, I think Dar Re Mi beats Twice Over in a match-race anyways, especially with a clean trip. You don't want to discount Twice Over's 3rd place in the Breeders Cup to Gio Ponti (Tale of the Cat) and the legendary Zenyatta (Street Cry).
Sri Putra (Oasis Dream) doesn't work for me here as there is a clear gulf between performances at 1m1f or lower and anything over that. He did not look confident over the Sandown surface last time out. Currently trading at 25/1 I just don't think he will stay the distance.
Sir Michael Stoute's Zacinto (Dansili) is an interesting selection and is a solid third-place in the betting at a 9/2 price. My only issue is that the four year-old colt really hasn't won in a while. A fourth place finish to the mighty Goldikova in the Queen Anne doesn't inspire much confidence although at 20/1 odds it shows how little he was fancied. He came dead-last in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes on his seasonal debut at Newbury and I just don't see him as a Group 1 winner without big improvement. He may get going later in the season though, but it's too big of an ask at too short of a price.
I'll be playing Dar Re Mi on top of Twice Over and I may play 6/1 Mawatheeq (Danzig) to come third as he has a tendency to run on late. If the early pace isn't too sharp then Mawatheeq becomes a bigger contender and will be more than worth backing in-running. Throw out his 10/12 in the Group 1 Prince of Wales. His 2nd place finish to Twice Over at Newmarket last October in the Group 1 Emirates Airlines Champion Stakes needs to be respected.
