2010 ENGLISH PREMIERSHIP TRANSFER DEADLINE LATEST
It’s been a very interesting day during the final hours of the English Premiership transfer window and while we haven’t had any blockbuster last-second deals, there has still been plenty of moving and shaking as teams cajole for players to either help for that title or promotion push, while others draft in mercenaries for a protracted relegation dogfight.
Examining the odds on Betfair for the final hour of the Transfer Deadline, you’ll that Ryan Babel looks set to stay at Liverpool (1.02 to stay) while Craig Bellamy is also not leaving Eastlands. David Bentley has not been snapped up, while it also appears as though David James remains at Portsmouth. Emile Heskey will not be going back to Liverpool and Joe Cole remains a Chelsea player. Several teams had been linked with Kenwyne Jones and he looks like he’ll be a Black Cat for another few months at least.
Robinho has left Manchester City, being unveiled in Santos by stepping out of a helicopter accompanied by none other than Pele, himself. Scott Parker remains at West Ham while Matthew Upson is also set to stay put. These were the ten players touted by Betfair as the possible high-profile transfers this season- none of them, bar Robinho, have gone anywhere.
Liverpool haven’t seen their odds to win the English Premiership shaved at all since their signing of 17 year-old Christopher Buchtmann, although that is hardly a surprise. David Healy is moving from Sunderland to Ipswich on loan while Burnley are taking Chelsea’s 20 year-old Jack Cork on loan as well. Hull City have sent Daniel Cousin to Greek team Larissa.
David Nugent has moved back on loan to Burnley after a disappointing spell at Pompey.
In an underwhelming transfer deadline day, likely the biggest deal we can see at the moment is Benni McCarthy moving to West Ham, who are in desperate need of reinforcements. Manchester City were unable to secure a work permit for Kenyan McDonald Mariga.
Fulham have taken Nicky Shorey back on loan from Aston Villa.
We’ll be keeping you posted about any of the further goings-on within English football transfer activity as the day progresses.
