2010 EPSOM DERBY LATEST BETTING TIPS

Jan Vermeer (Montjeu) continues to hold onto the favourites position and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a last-minute price drop on the AP O'Brian-trained colt. The multiple grouped race winner is trading at 3.5 with Ladbrokes amidst very heavy volume.

I think his win in the Group 3 Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes showed a bit more tactical speed than his previous win did, despite it being a Group 1 score at Saint-Cloud. He's shown that he can win several different ways and that type of versatility usually bodes well against fields like this that tend to boast plenty of up-and-comers, but few genuinely proven performers.
You can understand the excitement about this classy bay and you get the feeling that if he gets the right trip he will be awfully tough to chase down.
Workforce (King's Best) and Midas Touch (Galileo) are the second-place contenders with both options trading around 7.0. Workforce looks a solid improver and ran second in the Group 2 Dante Stakes. That's a decent reference, but Midas Touch's Group 2 score in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes was a textbook performance and flashing so much quality at 1m2f gives a fair amount of confidence for this one.
I have a feeling that both of these two could be there-or-thereabouts at the finish line. Neither of these horses have run a bad race in their careers so if luck continues to go their way then it could be a very interesting stretch drive.
Al Zir (Medaglia D'Oro) steps up for the blue team and trades at a tempting 17.0 with Ladbrokes. I think that's a quality price on what looks to be a real improver. He finished a disapointing ninth in the 2000 Guineas, but I think he needed the race and was likely going to be pointed at a longer campaign. The switch from Frankie Dettori to Kieran Fallon is an interesting one and I have a feeling that it's either going to be first place or last place for this quality colt.
The outside bet is definitely Ted Spread (Beat Hollow) at 33/1. This is a very interesting colt with 2 wins from 4 lifetime over the turf and a group 3 win in the MBNA Chester Vase when sent off at 8/1. This is a big step up, but that price is competitive and the False Nose 'N Glasses Partnership is a group that you can really get behind as a punter. I think this one could strike lucky if anything goes awry with Jan Vermeer.
I will be playing Jan Vermeer and Al Zir on the top end of my forecast bets keying up Workforce, Ted Spread and Midas Touch on the bottom end.
