2010 GALWAY PLATE LAST MINUTE BETTING TIPS

We’re less than an hour away from the running of the 2010 Galway Plate and there’s been some very significant movement in the betting markets this morning and the action continues to develop as the minutes tick down to the off.

It’s probably not surprising that Majestic Concorde continues to hold onto his position as the outright favourite to win this race although his odds haven’t dropped a huge amount since yesterday. The odds are anywhere between 7/2 and 9/2 with the best prices being offered up at Blue Square and Betfred at the time of this writing.
The Last Derby comes fresh off a seasonal debut score at Cork when he topped a field of 9 going 2m4f. I think he’ll be trying to tuck himself in just behind the leaders and deploy some of that tactical speed once he comes come. If he gets a clean trip I think he’s a serious threat and the punters seem to be warming up to him as he’d priced as low as 13/2 with William Hill and hovers around 8/1 with Paddy Power, Ladbrokes and Bet365.
Bringbackthebiff also scored on his seasonal debut at Tramore while hardly breaking a sweat. That was back in April so you know he’ll be fresh but he does tend to struggle against larger fields. You can back him as high as 20/1 with Bet365 and Blue Square.
Grand Slam Hero hasn’t seen his price jump around too drastically and that bodes fairly well for Nigel Twiston-Davies charge. His recent record has been excellent and he tends to win when he’s priced as a favourite or coming in off long odds. I think he’s a versatile jumper and will certainly be there-or-thereabouts. He’s priced a bit short for an each-way selection but I do think he’s a serious contender. On form, he’s one of the better horses here and the Twiston-Davies yard is always dangerous.
The Fonze is a very interesting story as there is a very large discrepancy in his prices between various bookmakers. Ladbrokes has him listed at 16/1 while he can be backed at double the price if you’re wagering with Blue Square- a 33/1 payout. He’s taken two on the bounce and has done very well this year, racing four times since May and running 1141. This is likely to be my each-way selection.
