2010 OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP ODDS ON TOP CONTENDERS AND OUTSIDE BETS
We've got some rain coming in overnight tonight so things could be a bit soggy for the early partnerships of the 2010 Open Championship at St Andrews. Betting volume is increasingly dramatically on this massive tournament and it seems as though everybody has an opinon on where this one is going to go. Needless to say, there are some excellent odds available on this tournament and I have a feeling that, with four days of varying weather, this one is going to come down to who shows the most consistency and coolness under pressure.
Tiger Woods is the outright favourite for the tournament and he is looking for an unprecedented St Andrews hat-trick. Tiger is priced at a 6/1 listing with popular UK bookmaker Ladbrokes and you can expect that price to jump around significantly during the first day based on how Woods does.
Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy are both considered the strong second favourites and I think that McIlroy is priced that short due to volume from patriotic punters having a bash on the Norn Irish lad. Both contenders are at 16/1 and Mickelson is the better value there, though many expect McIlroy to put in a very solid performance. It will be interesting to see how he copes with the pressure.
Ernie Els is listed at 20/1 and he is getting the nod from a number of top golf journalists but I'm not 100% sure about how he's going to handle the blustery conditions. His results have been getting better and better over the past few months and I think he's more of a there-or-thereabouts type than an outright winner.
Padraig Harrington's odds are trading at 25/1 and I think he is a dangerous player here with every chance of winning the tournament if he can start brightly. We've tipped him as the first day leader and you can lock in some excellent odds on that.
If you're looking for some good outside bets on the 2010 Open Championship, there are some very rewarding prices out there. KJ Choi is an interesting selection at 100/1 while Camilo Villegas trades at a lengthy 80/1 price.
Canada's Mike Weir is 150/1 to win the 2010 Open Championship and, while this doesn't really look to be Weir's preferred type of course, he could put a run together if he starts very well. I think he's not a bad shot on the each-way and he is also 16/1 to finish top 10.
Colin Montgomerie is an excellent 250/1 and if you're looking for a lengthy shot I think that could be the one. John Daly's odds to win the 2010 Open are listed at 200/1 and that would be quite a story. David Duval and Tom Watson are also listed at 200/1.
