2010 RYDER CUP OPENING DAY PAIRING- BETTING TIPS AND ODDS
With the pairing for the opening match being announced on Thursday afternoon, the Ryder Cup has certainly stepped up a notch.
With both captains choosing not to create a media circus surrounding the Tiger vs. McIlroy saga, England's Lee Westwood and Germany's Martin Kaymer will lead out for Europe.
The United States will be represented by Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson in what promises to be a riveting affair.
In a trend that has been the norm leading up to this tee off, the European pair of Westwood/Kaymer are odds on favourites to take the opening match, with Paddypower setting them at odds of 2.1, to the Mickelson/Johnson pair's 2.37
These odds are a lot tighter than the overall odds predictions; however seem pretty spot on considering the talent on show
Next up see's Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell paired together- a good mix of talent and experience, that will prove difficult to overcome. The bookies are putting them at 1.83- one of the safest of the lot
The pair come up against Matt Kuchar and Stewart Cink second up, and find their odds rather long at 2.87.
This will be an interesting tussle with the world's eyes on McIlroy after his claims of being good enough to take down the Tiger
In the 3rd match of the day, an all English contingent of Ian Poulter and Ross Fischer tee off to humble Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods.
This match will be watched intensely with the media winning either way. Will Tiger be humbled? Or will Tiger triumph? If you are a betting man you would think that Tiger will rise to the occasion and as such his team are odds on here
The bookies are calling for this one to go the way of the Americans, with the public savouring the opportunity to watch Tiger react to critics labelling him as 'not worthy of being in a Ryder Cup team’.
The European pair are set at 2.87- long odds to that of the favoured American pair of Tiger/Stricker at 1.83.
Lastly, Padraig Harrington pairs up with Luke Donald challenging Bubba Watson and Jeff Overton. This is the easiest of the lot to call from a money-earning perspective with the Europeans expected to waltz this one at 1.72, to the Yanks' 3.2
This is going to be classic Ryder Cup, and hopefully a tighter contest than experienced in Europe over the past few years.
Betting Tip: Harrington/Donald to beat Overton/Watson at 3.20
