2010 SUMMER TRANSFER ODDS SHOW CESC FABREGAS ON THE WAY TO BARCELONA
With the 2010 World Cup just around the corner, many of you would think that the betting markets for the South African tournament would be all the excitement we’ll see until late July. Well, rest assured that the silly season is about to begin as transfer betting odds are always especially volatile during a summer with an International tournament.
One of the biggest transfer stories in the papers these days are Cesc Fabregas’s transfer from Arsenal to Barcelona. While a number of prices are being bandied about- some as high as £65,000,000- many don’t think that Barcelona will pay over £30,000,000 for the young Spaniard who came through their youth system years ago. The word around the campfire is that Cesc has already made a formal request with Arsene Wenger and that Arsenal are resigned to losing their young talisman.
Personally, I wonder how Fabregas fits into the Barca squad and whether he will actually get many games or not. He’s not exactly the most versatile sort and even a swap with Yaya Toure would still have plenty of competition in central midfield at the Catalan Club.
If you fancy Cesc Fabregas to stay at Arsenal, you’re looking at a fairly lucrative 3.25 price on Betfair while Fabregas’ odds to move to Barcelona are trading at an odds-on price of 1.4. The volume on there is fairly solid for this stage in the season so it’s a fairly well-developed market. Betfair punters seem to be confident that Fabregas is on his way back to Spain.
Carlos Tevez is a bit of a different story with very little volume on his market at this point. However, if you think he’s going to leave Manchester City, you can lock in a 2.24 price right now. He is priced at 1.38 to stick around for at least another season. I think that Tevez may have his eyes on greener pastures and he might fancy himself in Italian football. There was chatter about a move to Liverpool a few months ago and that would certainly make it seem like Tevez was more or less on a quest to piss off every football fan in England barring Chelsea.
Speaking of Liverpool, it seems like the jury is still out on whether Steven Gerrard or Fernando Torres will still be at Liverpool next year. Steven Gerrard to stay at Liverpool is currently priced at 1.55 while he is paying out at 1.61 to leave. I would wait and see on this market as I would expect bids on Gerrard if he has a dynamite world cup. Fernando Torres to stay at Liverpool looks like a total crap shoot at the moment with the “no” option getting the slightest of edges. He is 1.86 to leave Liverpool and 1.87 to stay. Absolutely nothing between the two options here and I expect plenty of volatility throughout the World Cup.
