2010 UNDERWOOD STAKES AT CAULFIELD ODDS AND EXCLUSIVE BETTING PREDICTION
One of the biggest Group 1 events that runs annually in Australia is the Underwood Stakes at Caulfield and it's set to go this Saturday. The current betting favourite for this 1800m contest is the talented So You Think (High Chaparral). It's especially interesting as he's already priced at odds-on in the Betfair exchange market. He's currently trading at a 1.93 price amidst fairly heavy volume.
The New Zealand-born colt recently captured the Group 2 Memsie Stakes over the Caulfield course when sent off at 11/2. That's about as good a seasonal debut as one can ask for and the connections will likely be pleased with the jockey switch to Steven Arnold. This talented four year-old looks on the up-and-up, the only real blemish having been a beaten fifth by talented sprinter Starspangledbanner (Choisir) last October in the Caulfield Guineas, his only step up to Group 1 level, at the time.
Current Melbourne Cup favourite Shocking (Street Cry) is in contention for this one and he has never looked as good at Caulfield as he does at Flemington so that's why it may be best to overlook the talented Mark Kavanagh-trained horse here. He deserves plenty of respect and will need to improve significantly, I think he's a last minute play based on the surface conditions on the day. The tepid 11.5 price indicates that punters are lacking confidence here as well.
Heart of Dreams (Show a Heart) is commanding a respectable price of 6.8 and this 5 year-old gelding finished second to Shocking last time out in the Group 2 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington. He hasn't looked in tip-top form this season with only a handfull of 2nd place finishes to his credit. He will need to really step it up a grade here and looks to be more of a contender for the forecast selections. I think Shocking could spring a surprise based on sheer talent, but Heart Of Dreams will need to surprise everybody to get the score here.
Metal Bender (Danasinga) looks to be the main selection for those attempting to beat the favourite. The 5 year-old gelding is trading at aroudn 7.0 and looks much sharper this season than Heart of Dreams, as he's captured a group 1 and multiple group 2 scores here. He's a solid bet paired up with So You Think, but you would reckon that many will be attempting to pick pick him up with that tidy 7.0 exchange price.
Prediction:
1. Metal Bender
2. So You Think
3. Shocking
4. Zabrasive
