2010 US MASTERS AT AUGUSTA FINAL DAY ODDS AND TIPS FOR TIGER WOODS
We're down to the dramatic final day of the 2010 US Masters at Augusta National and quick examination of the odds indicates that there are really only three plausible winners left with the current clubhouse leader Lee Westwood trading as the near even-money favourite with an 11/8 price tag. Phil Mickelson is trading just behind him at a 6/4 listing and looks like he will offer up the bulk of the pressure as Westwood looks to become the first Brit to win the Masters since 1996.
The big story of the day though is Tiger Woods who is 4 strokes off the lead, but is widely-known as one of the most dangerous final day players in the sport of golf. Him and Mickelson just came up short last year on the final day after playing some scintellating stuff early in the day. Tiger is right back in this thing if he has a strong opening and he is the only other selection boasting a plausible price from the bookmakers. Tiger Woods odds to win the 2010 Masters are trading at 9/2.
Despite KJ Choi and Tiger sharing the same score, they do not share the same price as Choi is a lengthy 14/1 to win the Masters. If he has a few good holes early on, that price could certainly shorten and he has demonstrated some decent acumen in the past. It is a lot of distance to make up, though.
Ian Poulter and Fred Couples look out of it at this point with 40/1 prices. Hunter Mahan trades at 50/1 while Anthony Kim and Ricky Barnes are at 100/1. YE Yang trades at 125/1.
Paddy Power is offering up each-way betting of 1/3 odds on the top two places. There will be two ball betting and hole by hole betting on Tiger Woods once the players actually tee off.
For me, the big variable here is- can Tiger start strong and stay consistent? If Tiger plays bogey-free golf (which he pretty much has to) then I think he's just as likely to win as Westwood or Lefty. Today, I think the par 5's make the big difference and if Phil can cobble together something like his famous eagle-eagle-birdie in three holes from yesterday then he's unbeatable. If you're backing Phil, you're either backing Westwood to blow his lead or you're backing lightning to strike twice in two places. I think Tiger is ready for this one and I think his intensity and day four experience could be the difference. Tiger's at great odds right now and with one good hole, you'll probably see his price halved. I'm going to push on Woods today, I simply think you can't write a better story.
