2010 US OPEN LIVE BETTING DJOKOVIC VS. MONFILS
Novak Djokovic and Gael Monfils are about to step onto Arthur Ashe stadium, bringing with them a highly charged history. The pair met five years ago in the first round of the US Open and delivered a five-set marathon to remember on the outside courts. At the time, they were flush off the juniors and both promised great futures; they weren’t household names them to receive an invitation to Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Today they are. And they are set to contest a spot in the US Open semis in the biggest arena in the game. Djokovic enters the match as the solid 2/9 favourite while Gael Monfils is the 3/1 puppy at William Hill.
Djokovic justifiably is the favourite; he owns all meetings between the pair including that 2005 US Open epic.
Monfils has shown great form over the course of his run into the quarters, however; and, never more so than when he took out Richard Gasquet in the fourth round.
To all intents and purposes, he should be a tough opponent for Djokovic to overcome, if at all.
The drama in the lead up to this clash was palpable but the markets were conspicuously leaning towards the Serbian in all aspects. Now that the players are warming up, Live-In-Play tennis betting markets at the ready, poised to get going at first strike of the ball, markets should really intensify. I would wager they’d get tighter and more thrilling than perhaps initially anticipated.
Unlike Djokovic who has fulfilled expectations made on his behalf by reaching the upper echelons of the game and winning a major title (2008 Australian Open), Monfils hasn’t made good on expectations. Some would say he’s been quite disappointing. His best accomplishments were a peek-a-boo stint in the top ten and a semi-final at the French Open.
In some ways, a win here would mean more to Monfils than it would to Djokovic. It would potentially signal Monfils arrival and set him on the right path to fame and glory. Of course, Djokovic is in the hunt for a second major title and I don’t see him throwing away such an opportunity without a fight. May the best player win.
Allez-allez!
