2010 VANCOUVER OLYMPICS MENS 500M SPEED SKATING ODDS
Canadian Jeremy Wotherspoon, competing in the Men’s 500M Speed Skating, is now considered the favourite according to top UK bookmaker William Hill. Currently trading at a price of 10/3, the Canadian is the current world record holder for the men’s 500M Speed Skating competition, but I wouldn’t expect him to break that today as conditions at the Richmond Speed Skating Oval aren’t proving conducive to ample record breaking.
Behind Wotherspoon, we have the Korean-based tandem of Lee Kang-Seok and Lee Kyou-Hyuk, who trade at odds of 7/2 and 9/2, each. Japanese competitor Keiichiro Nagashima can be backed at a 5/1 price whiel Tucker Fredericks remains in the reckoning with an 8/1 price.
Joji Kato and Mika Poutala are both available at a price of 10/1, which means that they are on the border of striking-distance of a podium finish. Pekka Koskela is listed at 16/1 while Jamie Gregg trades alongside Fengton Yu and Yuya Oikawa at 20/1.
Jan Smeekens is priced at 22/1 while Tae-Bum Mo sits at 28/1. Ronald Mulder and Shani Davis are priced at 33/1 for this one while Dmitry Lobkov is at 40/1. Akio Ota is listed at 50/1 while Simon Kuipers is the long-shot at 66/1.
This one will be disappointing for Canadians if they don’t achieve a medal, but I’m not sure how many are keeping their fingers crossed about a gold medal finish. I think that Wotherspoon is more than capable of pulling this off, but I’m noticing that a number of Canadian athletes are neglecting to finish strong in their competitions, Wotherspoon seriously needs to reverse that trend, much like Alex Bilodeau did last night- he came through when it was important and that’s what made the difference.
Canada should add a medal here, but only Wotherspoon’s grit and determination will decide whether its gold or not.
