2010 VANCOUVER WINTER OLYMPICS MEN’S LUGE LATEST ODDS AND TIPS

We’re just a few days away from the kick-off of the sliding events at the 2010 Winter Olympics and, as usual, we’ve got plenty of exciting betting action set to unfold. The Luge Events are always interesting and, as one of the fastest-paced Olympic Sports, you really can’t help but feel the rush. There’s always that auto-racing-like sensation we get when a crash looks imminent, but hey, that’s just part of the fun.
Italian Armin Zoeggeler is the even-money favourite to dominate the Men’s Singles Luge at the Whistler Sliding Centre. He is looking for his third gold medal on the bounce and looks a solid selection. He is so dedicated to his sport he turned down the chance to carry Italy’s flag at the opening ceremonies due to his preliminary runs being held the next evening. Bwin is listing Zoeggeler at a 2.0 price.
Albert Demtschenko is somehow priced at 3.0 and the bookmakers expect him to provide the main competition for Zoeggeler. Personally, I think his haul of one silver medal from 5 Olympic starts doesn’t belie enough confidence at this type of stage. He did take the gold in the 2010 Sigulda Men’s Luge Singles, but I expect him to find a different ball-game here.
The German pair of David Moeller and Felix Loch are priced at 4.5 and 5.0, respectively, and I had previously tipped the Germans to dominate most sliding sports. Moeller has never scored in an Olympic games but has shown acumen at the highest level. I would opt for Loch instead as he’s shown more recent form- striking gold in the Men’s Singles and Mixed team competitions at Oberhof in 2008 and Lake Placid in 2009.
Podium betting for Men’s Luge is available at Bwin and Armin Zoeggeler is listed at a microscopic price of 1.05 to finish top 3 while Moeller and Demtschenko trade at 1.3 prices. Felix Loch trades at 1.7.
Winning margin betting is also available, so if you can call the right fractions, you’re in for a hot payday. The favoured winning margin is either the 0,00-0,100 selection which is priced at 2.2 or the 0,101-0,200 option which trades at 2.4. 0,201-0,300 is priced at 8.0 while 0,301 or more can be backed at a 6.5 price.
Head to Head betting is also available so that’s where you can really clean up if you get your selections right. Effectively, you’re betting on your selection to finish above another one, so if you’ve got a feeling that Manuel Pfister is going to outperform expectations, back him to beat Tony Benshoof at a juicy 3.2 price.
In the Men’s Luge Doubles it looks to be all-Germany. Two Deutschland tandems are the biggest contenders with Andre Florschuetz/Torsten Wustlich being the preferred duo at a 2.55 price. The other contenders are Patric Leitner/Alexander Resch who trade at 3.9 while the Austrian brothers Andreas and Wolfgang Linger are competitive at 4.0. Calgary-based brothers Mike and Chris Moffat are the underdogs with a massive 201.0 pricetag to take the victory. If you think Canada will spring a surprise here, back them to podium at 34.0- an enticing price on a sport that has seen its share of upsets.
Head to Head and Winning Margin odds are available, but Bwin has opened an additional market on this one where you can back the Nationality of the gold medalist. Germany are odds-on at 1.65 with the Austrians trading at 3.8. Italy can be backed at a 4.0 price while Any Other Nationality pays out at 29.0, inclusive.
