2010 World Cup Final Starting Lineups for Holland vs. Spain
- By A.J. Ryder on July 12, 2010 01:30 GMTWe are agonizingly close to the start of the 2010 World Cup Final in South Africa, and the teamsheets have just been released for the Holland vs. Spain fixture.
There aren't too many massive surprises on here and, of course, the Fernando Torres factor (or lack thereof) is going to be a key part of this match. Want-away Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has not had the best of tournaments and you just have to wonder how many chances he's going to get today and whether he'll actually be able to take any of them since he's starting on the bench.
Here are the starting lineups for Holland vs Spain:
Netherlands: 1-Maarten Stekelenburg; 2-Gregory van der Wiel, 3-John Heitinga, 4-Joris Mathijsen, 5-Giovanni van Bronckhorst; 7-Dirk Kuyt, 6-Mark van Bommel, 10-Wesley Sneijder, 8-Nigel de Jong, 11-Arjen Robben; 9-Robin van Persie.
Spain: 1-Iker Casillas; 15-Sergio Ramos, 3-Gerard Pique, 5-Carles Puyol, 11-Joan Capdevila; 14-Xabi Alonso, 8-Xavi, 6-Andres Iniesta, 16-Sergio Busquets; 18-Pedro, 7-David Villa.
Holland's odds to win the match have been shortened slightly in the build-up to the match and you can now back the Dutch at a 5/2 price to win the match in 90 minutes. Spain are priced at 11/10 to win the 2010 World Cup in regular time.
I think discipline is going to be a huge factor here and we saw the antithesis of that four years ago with Zinedine Zidane's infamous headbutt. That seems like so long ago now.
Who's going to make history today? Regardless, a few names on those teamsheets will be permanently etched into World Cup folklore after today's massive contest.
