2010 WORLD SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND TWO BETTING TIPS
With the last of the first round matches done and dusted we now move onto the second round and a best of 25 format replaces the best of 19. The major upset of the first round was Mark Davis’s defeat of number six seed Ryan Day, but all the big guns remain in the hunt for World Championship glory.
The more interesting of second round matches begin on Saturday with Ronnie O’Sullivan taking on Mark J Williams and Ali Carter facing Joe Perry. O’Sullivan and Williams share five World titles between them and this match up was eagerly anticipated from the moment that the draw was made.
Neither player really excelled in their first round match but both showed enough to justify a place in the last 16. O’Sullivan took a 7-2 lead in the first session of his tie against Liang Wenbo but then showed glimpses of his notoriously fragile mental state when looking disinterested and distracted whilst letting his lead diminish to 9-7 before taking the 17th frame to secure victory. Unfortunately for Liang he had left himself too much to do but I doubt that Williams will be so forgiving.
If you didn’t snap up the suggested 14/1 on Williams pre tournament then I would propose you either jump on ship now at odds of 12/1 with Paddy Power or a simple match odds bet at 3.3 (9/4) on Betfair could also prove shrewd.
In contrast to the aforementioned players Carter and Perry both cruised through their respective first round matches in the sense of a 10-4 score line. However, between the two of them they couldn’t manage a single century break and in fact only Carter managed a single break of more than 75. I expect Carter to win this one with a bit in hand, but at odds of 2/5 I will be staying clear of the match odds betting.
Odds of 5/6 with Paddy Power on fewer than 1.5 centuries looks to be the best bet of this match. In addition the stats of the first round Perry and Carter only managed a single century break in a cumulative 36 frames at the recent China Open.
