2010 YORK EBOR TIPS AND SELECTIONS FOR WEDNESDAY
We've got a very exciting day of racing ahead of us at York as we're set for a number of classy encounters that include two Group 2 races and the totesport Ebor itself.
The opening race is the 1:45 Totesport.com Stakes which is a rather large handicap without a real favourite. Satwa Moon (Horse Chestnut) is the current betting favourite at 6/1 but I'm going to try and beat him with Chilly Filly (Montjeu) and Tepmokea (Noverre), who are listed at 7/1 and 10/1, respectively. One to keep your eye on here is Sir Michael Stoute's The Fonz (Oasis Dream) who could get your day off to a roaring start at a 14/1 price.
The 2:15 Weatherbys Insurance Lonsdale Cup is a Group 2 affair that has been turned inside out by the withdrawal of Ask (Sadler's Wells). Most punters will probably head towards Opinion Poll (Halling), who teams up with Frankie Dettori. I think Tastahil (Singspiel) is the play here at a solid 10/1 price in a field that could see a surprise or two.
Another Group 2 contest kicks off at 2:50 and the undefeated Temple Meads (Avonbridge) looks to continue his undefeated streak here and he looks to have everything in his favour. I expect him to drift down a bit so the current 5/2 odds look pretty good to me. Sir Reginald (Compton Place) is the likely candidate for the upset and he's got a course and distance reference here that the others lack and he's got Dettori aboard for the trip. Eddie Ahern saddles co-top weight Approve (Oasis Dream) and he'll be looking for his second Group 2 score after capturing the Norfolk Stakes at Ascot back in June. He is switching back to Ahern after a third place finish with Richard Hughes last time out.
The 2010 Totesport Ebor has Martyr (Cape Cross) and Overturn (Barathea) both trading as the 6/1 co-favourites. Martyr has been in a rich vein of form with three victories from his last four and these were quality handicaps that ran at Newmarket, Ascot and Goodwood. This is a proven big day performer and he should take the bulk of the action. It will be all about the final furlong for Martyr so if he doesn't have traffic problems then I think he'll be a serious force to be reckoned with. Overturn invades from Ireland and he has been in excellent form this season with five victories from eight races- an impressive score, however he is stepping up in class against this field. He is a lock for the place as he has only finished off the board once this year. Bernie The Bolt (Milan) is my tip for the upset here as he's fresh off a handicap victory at Ascot.
The 4:05 race is a listed affair with some seriously classy two year-olds. Face The Problem (Johannesburg) is the outright favourite here with a slim 7/4 price. He's taken three on the bounce and I reckon some punters may think his luck might run out. Arctic Feeling (Camacho) could play the spoiler here as he looks to be a serious improver. He's priced at 10/1.
The 4:40 is the EBF Fillies Handicap and Soorah (Dubawi) is the betting favourite at the moment, carrying a solid 9/4 price. She was a beaten favourite last time out and looks to improve under Kieran Fallon. She was beaten on the final few gallops last time out so you may want to throw out the result. I think that Gobama (Dr Fong) is your spoiler at 9/2 and pairing these two up in a forecast could be a great way to end the afternoon.
