- By A.J. As you know, the top two sides will get automatic promotion and then 3-6 will face off in a play-off for what is effectively the richest fixture in club football - guaranteeing Premier League television rights and parachute payments should the side move back down to the Championship the following year.

As it currently stands, Leicester City look to be the best choice for outright promotion and they are also very much in the mix to continue topping the table at the end of the season. If they can keep up the momentum heading into the end of the season we can assume that they will be able to make things happen.
They are four points clear of Burnley and the bookmakers have listed them at a very slim 1.33 listing to get outright promotion this year. The Foxes have really set a good standard this season and many will be banking on them to get promoted and keep things rolling next year into the Premier League. It has been quite a few years since they have been in English football’s top flight but this looks to be the right time for them to really strut their stuff.
QPR are the second choice for promotion and look on course to score an automatic promotion spot. The bookmakers have them floating at a very interesting price of 1.4 to get the ticket back into the Premier League next year - that will come as a huge boost to their management who sunk a lot of money into the club only to see their Premier League campaign falter when things really got serious.
Right now, QPR are just a point off of second place and are getting a considerable edge on Burnley to kick on and make things happen in the new year. It would be a real gift to their fans who have stuck by them if they are going to be able to pull this sort of thing off when it really counts.
Derby County are available at a 2.5 price to get promoted while Burnley are a step behind at 2.75 - this is a clear indication that the bookmakers don’t think they are capable of sticking out their good run of recent form - their is money to be made there for true believers. Nottingham Forest are 3.75 while Reading, Wigan, Brighton and Leeds look likely to slog it out for that next play-off spot with prices ranging from 8.0 to 10.0. What a story it would be if Leeds were finally back in the English top flight.
