2015 Women’s Wimbledon Betting Preview PT 1

You can expect a lot of attention being paid to the next major Grand Slam once things really kick off in earnest on Monday and the Men’s tournament usually gets the bulk of the coverage but this year we have a very interesting and very open Women’s Singles division as well. There is a lot to like about the 2015 iteration of Wimbledon and you can expect some really good betting opportunities to emerge - particularly as we get into the latter stages of the tournament.

While Novak Djokovic stands atop the men’s division like a colossus right now in regards to betting odds, we have a pretty similar thing happening here with Serena Williams who ranks as the significant favourite with only a single genuine challenger listed at a short price.

With Djokovic, it’s Andy Murray who is nipping at his heels and Murray is overlaid here because of all the patriotic wagers that are being placed on him by casual punters in the build-up. Murray has been playing well but hasn’t been playing blockbuster stuff as of late.

With Murray trading at 11/4 behind a 5/4 Djokovic, we have a comparable situation unfolding here with Serena Williams priced at 7/4 and Paulina Kvitova trading at a 7/2 margin. The odds then take a jump to Maria Sharapova, who certainly could have another Grand Slam victory in her and that’s going to be a tidy price once she manages to get through a few rounds of the tournament.

Williams is definitely a justifiable favourite but she has struggled to finish tournaments with the same type of verve that she tends to start them with. She will take plenty of money and should dominate the first few rounds but she is always a bit of a wildcard to bet on and the 7/4 is probably just a little short for some.
