2016 Australian Open Betting Tips
- By A.J. Ryder on January 20, 2016 20:09 GMTThere is a full slate of action still set to unfold at the 2016 Australian Open and you’ll find a number of talented players in the mix as they are all lining up to take on the likes of Novak Djokovic. The Serbian sensation can be backed at a relatively slim price of about 4/7 right now with most major bookmakers.
That will still be considered relative value though for most of the punters out there who reckon that there will be no major shakeups in this one and that things will play out according to form as opposed to the women's tournament which remains wide open.
It probably goes without saying that Andy Murray is the punters choice for the main spoiler position. You'll find him trading around a 5/1 margin right now and that price will surely drop as we get deeper into the tournament Murray hasn't really played his best stuff in Australia though and a number of punters appear likely to prefer backing an outsider.
You'll find Stan Wawrinka trading as the only other Australian Open men's candidate priced at a single-digit listing and you'll find him around a 7/1 margin right now. He has seen his odds go shorter a lot more often now after putting together a good body of work in 2015 and looking to build on that in the first major of the year.
Roger Federer is also in the mix here and he has the ability to go all the way here if he can play anywhere near his best. While the Swiss master has lost a step in the past few years he can still beat anybody in the world on his day and he is taking some betting volume during the build up to the Australian Open. As it currently stands, punters will find Federer trading at a price of about 10/1 with most major bookmakers.
Milos Raonic is in the mix here but the odds take a big jump up towards him with a 22/1 price tag. He is one that you might want to play on an each-way bet since you can bet a player to finish in the top two at 1/2 the odds. Raonic would still pay pretty well in that instance and is due for a big performance.
