2016/17 League Cup Betting Preview PT 1

The semi-finals for the first big trophy of the English football season are set to unfold mid-week and it looks like we could be setting up for a really tantalizing final featuring two in-form Premier League sides or a fascinating clash featuring at least one giant-killer. Manchester United take on relegation strugglers Hull City on Tuesday while Southampton play host to title contenders (at this point in time anyway) Liverpool on Wednesday.

It's probably the worst time for Hull City to be facing off against Manchester United – who had struggled against them earlier in the season – as Jose Mourinho's men have been able to string together an impressive succession of results that has seen them move from mid-table obscurity to challenging for a Champions League slot after running the table in the Christmas fixtures.

It's worth remembering that this is a two-legged tie and the winner will go through based on an aggregate score.

The Red Devils are short priced to pick up the victory at Old Trafford and you'll find them trading at a very slim 1/5 best price to secure the victory here. A few bookmakers have United priced as short as a 1/8 margin to get the victory after the first 90 minutes of play. Hull City have been pretty dire and, though Mourinho is likely to rotate the squad in this contest, you will still see many of United's better players – such is the demand for silverware with United still competing on three fronts now that the FA Cup has kicked off.

Hull are trading at a hefty price of 25/1 with a few bookmakers though some have them trading as low as a 14/1 margin to get the result at Old Trafford – ultimately, stranger things have happened and you can get a very good result if Hull are able to sneak a result here. Granted, that will require a real reversal of form for Manchester United.
