Now that we are down to the final four sides in the Champions League we have a pretty accurate picture of how the odds market is going to shape up. Lionel Messi and his side were able to sweep Manchester United aside relatively easily in a contest that really exposed the gulf between the two sides. Manchester United’s high-flying confidence was finally given a real test against superior football and the Catalan club were able to secure the victory early in the second leg.
Since Manchester City were knocked out of the competition by Spurs in what was probably one of the most exciting Champions League matches ever, the competition has lost the side that had been trading as the favourite for the vast majority of the season.
Liverpool are available at a 5/2 listing and look pretty good value here to get the better of Barcelona over their two-legged tie. The offensive firepower available at Liverpool is going to be a bigger test than the Barcelona defence has dealt with over much of the Champions League campaign and you reckon there will be a number of punters thinking the two-legged tie will be packed full of goals.
Ajax and Spurs are facing off in the other semi-final tie and both of these sides were not expected to make it this far but they have disposed of some very high-quality sides in order to ensure progression through to this stage of the competition. With the pressure off them, both sides may feel as though they have the wind at their back.
In a contest that looks a lot more like a latter stage Europa League match from a few years ago, Spurs go in as the slim favourites but Ajax were able to produce some really exciting football in their last match so many might be banking on them to make it to the final. Both sides are available to win the Champions League as high as a 9/2 price.
