There’s a lot to like about the tournament this year and virtually all of the usual suspects are back to pursue another big tournament.
It’s probably not a big surprise that Novak Djokovic is coming in as the outright favourite to win the tournament and he trades at a fairly enticing price of around 11/8. Things have been a little tricky for Djokovic throughout the 2020 season with a number of high profile errors seeing him drop out of tournaments and pick up an unnecessary loss.
The most unfortunate moment for the Serbian was his major mistake at the US Open when he hit a lineswoman with a ball that he had smashed away in anger. This led to him being removed from the tournament and having to issue a very public apology. It goes without saying that anybody who backed him would have been horrified about that moment and that might be affecting his price in this tournament as many don’t know whether he’ll be able to bring the discipline when it’s needed.
Rafa Nadal is considered to be the second outright favourite here and he’s trading at a pretty solid price of around 6/1 with several top bookmakers. Nadal isn’t quite the force that he was a few years ago - unless he is playing on a clay court, that is.
Dominic Thiem has been steadily climbing the rankings and has put in some solid performances over the past two years. He comes into this contest with a very solid price of around 11/2 to secure the Australian Open title - which would be a major feather in his cap.
