Arch Swing value to derail Beo

There is an interesting German raider, Mi Emma, who bolted up by nine lengths in the German 1000 Guineas, while Rahiyah shaped mightily well when filling third spot behind Darjina and Finsceal Beo at Longchamp last month. Interestingly, seven of the last 10 winners did not pick up a 1000 Guineas of any description en route to capturing this prize, so lack of a Classic victory needn't debar a bold bid from those without such an accolade. I am of the opinion that, for all that she's said to be flying at home, Finsceal Beo's Guineas exploits, which saw her prevail in the English and Irish versions either side of her narrow defeat in France, will catch up with her. Jim Bolger's filly was imperious at Newmarket and excuses were offered for her defeat at the hands of Darjina. But she was workmanlike when beating 66-1 shot Dimenticata at The Curragh and she may be vulnerable going into this race on the back of three races last month, which will have taken plenty out of her. I recommended backing Arch Swing in the Irish 1000 Guineas, but John Oxx's charge took a knock upon leaving the stalls and was never at the races thereafter, with Mick Kinane allowing her to coast home when in her own time when it was clear that she wasn't going to get competitive. It goes without saying that she is best forgiven that effort and, if judged on her excellent display when chasing home Finsceal Beo at Newmarket previously, you'd have to say that the 14/1 on offer with Ladbrokes is quite simply a gross underestimation of a high-class filly. The daughter of American sire Arch deserves copious amounts of credit for her performance on the Rowley Mile on May 6, as she was racing alone down the centre of the track. Conversely, Finsceal Beo came up the stands' side which, as the results from that meeting clearly suggest, was the place to be. I am convinced that Arch Swing has more scope than Finsceal Beo and that, granted a level playing field, she can reverse the Newmarket placings with her. The mere fact that Oxx is letting her take her chance is a definite indication that he feels the same, as the Irishman isn't one to play for place money. I see Rahiyah is a big threat, especially with the Jeremy Noseda yard in good form, but there's no way she should be half the price of Arch Swing, while you'd have to be concerned as to whether Mi Emma will be seen to best effect if the ground were to dry out during the course of the week, as seems likely. Yaqeen did extremely well for one so inexperienced when coming home well to be sixth in the English 1000 Guineas in which she was involved in some scrimmaging in the early stages, causing her to momentarily lose her place, and then she was hampered just over two furlongs out. I doubt very much whether she would have got to the front two, but she is definitely better than the bare form and she will go into this race fresher and less exposed than most, therefore it would be folly to discount her. Having said that, this is a very tough race and others do look stronger. Verdict: 1pt Arch Swing @ 14/1 (Ladbrokes)
