Arsenal Made Favourites for Carling Cup
- By Jaymes Monte on October 28, 2010 10:29 GMTFollowing their impressive 4-0 win over Newcastle Arsenal have been made the betting favourites to lift the Carling Cup in February.
The Gunners, along with Manchester United, are made favourites to end their five year trophy drought by lifting this season’s Carling Cup. Arsene Wenger has abandoned his policy of selecting predominantly young sides in the competition in favour of looking to bring some silverware back to north London.
Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott both benefited from Wenger’s new selection policy last night as the pair continued their rehabilitation from injury. Walcott was on the score sheet twice whilst the Dane got his second goal of the week after scoring the third against Manchester City on Sunday.
When asked about his new selection policy in the aftermath of the Newcastle game Wenger said: “We want to do well in all competitions, and when we do not have injuries we can field strong teams in every competition.”
Arsenal go into Saturday’s quarter-final draw alongside Manchester United, Aston Villa, Birmingham. West Ham, West Bromwich Albion, Wigan and the only non-Premier League team Ipswich. The draw will be made this Saturday lunchtime live on Sky Sports at around 1235 BST. All other teams in the draw will be keen on avoiding this determined and talented Arsenal side.
