ARSENAL VS. PARTIZAN BELGRADE- GUNNERS FAVOURED TO WIN
The Gunners travel to Serbia tonight taking on Partizan Belgrade in their second round group match of the Champions League this year.
Many are putting this clash as having the potential to impress, with Arsenal having suffered a shock defeat to Premiership minnows West Brom over the weekend, and now taking on the Serbian Champions.
Partizan will head into tonight’s clash on the crest of a wave of confidence- both playing at home, as well as having started their domestic season perfectly with 5 wins in 6 matches.
With that said, they have returned to the Champions League after a seven years absence, suffering a defeat to Shaktar Donetsk in their first match.
Arsenal on the other hand comes into this match up having destroyed Braga 6-0 in their first Champions League match at the Emirates
Arsenal line up tonight with a somewhat thinner attacking line-up than normally present, with Robin van Persie, Theo Walcott and Cesc Fabregas all out with injuries
From an historical perspective, this one is tough to judge with these teams never having met in a formal competition until tonight
On the team line-up front-Gunner captain Cesc Fabregas is still out, while goalkeeper Almunia is absent through injury. Lukasz Fabianski will take up his role between the posts
Thomas Vermaelen is out with an Achilles injury, whilst Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott are not expected to back until at least mid-October
For Partizan right-back Aleksandar Miljkovic has been ruled out after picking up an ankle injury in training.
Wenger will be demanding a response from his side tonight as the trip to Serbia kicks off a difficult week for the club, which includes a trip to Stamford Bridge this weekend.
There is good money to be made on the match tonight, with Bet365 putting travellers Arsenal at 1.8, to Partizan's 5.0 even.
Arsenal's striker woes have caused the bookies to hold back on any thoughts of a large scoreline, with Bet365 calling a 1-0 win in favour of the Gunners at 7.5, with a 3-0 win trading at 17.0- a large margin considering the explosive 6-0 scoreline witnessed in their first Champions league game
Arsenal's French-Moroccan Chamakh is expected to open for the Gunners at 4.5- however considering his mediocre form until tonight, Andrei Arshavin might be a better look in at 5.5.
Samir Nasri has had a wonder run putting the ball in the net of late, and is definitely worth a punt at 2.75 to score at anytime
All in all tonight is a big game for Arsenal. They are a team that is desperate for not only momentum, but also some form of consistency.
They are coming up against a side that is coming off a good run of form and will need to earn this win here tonight.
One would imagine, however, that Arsenal will be too strong for this opposition and this should be a win for the Gunners- albeit not in the goal range they have shown in the past
Betting Tip: Arsenal to win at 1.8- a nice little earner
