ASTON VILLA VS CHELSEA FA CUP BETTING TIPS
Memories of a thrashing – there is no other word to describe it – at Stamford Bridge just two weeks ago are still very fresh in the minds of both Martin O’Neill and the Aston Villa players. But rather than hinder them that might just be the catalyst to getting their season back on track.
They got back to winning ways with a solid win over Bolton last weekend, and when both Spurs and Liverpool dropped points they were all of a sudden right back in the thick of the race for fourth place. They’ve already made it to one domestic cup final this season and they would dearly like to make it another by exacting revenge over Chelsea at Wembley this weekend.
That, however, is easier said than done. Whilst Arsenal and Manchester United were crashing out of the Champions League in midweek, Chelsea players had their feet up safe in the knowledge that they are amid a great run of form and sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League.
So what of the match odds betting? Well Chelsea’s hot-streak means that it is no surprise to see them as the 1.6 (4/7) favourites on Betfair, but that is a little too short for my liking. Aside from that 7-1 thrashing at Stamford Bridge just two weeks ago Villa have an exceptional record against the Premier League’s top sides and I am willing to forgive them for that performance – we all have our off days from time to time.
I expect O’Neill to tackle the problems encountered at Stamford Bridge by tightening up at the back first and foremost. That should lead to a low scoring game, or at least a low scoring start to the game. In-play traders can take advantage of that by backing Under 2.5 goals at 2.1 (11/10) on Betfair, those who like to place their bets then sit back and watch the game can back Under 1.5 first-half goals at odds of 1.5 (1/2) and/or 0-0 in the Half-Time Score market at 3.5.
Chelsea are the form team in England and many will expect them to win this one comfortably, but beware the wounded animal, Aston Villa might just retaliate with venom after their humbling in west London a fortnight ago.
