Aston Villa vs Tottenham Preview

While Jose Mourinho’s men may have aspirations of qualifying for Europe next season, they travel to Aston Villa on Sunday knowing their hosts are fighting against relegation in their first season back in the top flight.

Aston Villa will relish the opportunity to distance themselves from the relegation zone. They currently sit in 17th place and are 15 points off the magical 40-point total which all but secures Premier League credentials.

Tottenham are currently enjoying a decent spell domestically with their scruffy elimination of Southampton in the last round of the FA Cup coming freshly to mind.

Spurs also dispatched the Champions Manchester City in their last league match and would back themselves to do the same against The Villans and close the gap on the top four.

Villa have lost two and won two of their last five in the league while Spurs have a similar record but fans will look to the most recent brushing aside of City as an important turning point of their season.

Without Harry Kane once again, one can expect Spurs to be fairly tame in front of goal but Aston Villa’s suspicious defence may give rise to a few openings to the visitors.

Spurs have failed to score in their last two away games and with the implications for Villa, this could be a low scoring game. The key area will be in midfield and if either team can show imagination and guile in front of goal and Mourinho’s men seem more likely to provide that ingredient.
