ATP FRENCH OPEN BETTING TIPS – FERRER, FERRERO, HEWITT AND MORE
Day 3 of the French Open is a jam-packed affair, highlighted by several eye-catching matches. William Hill is offering a veritable buffet of tennis betting odds and lines on each and every match on the day’s card, so get in on the exciting action while you can. Don’t worry if you miss the pre-match markets because William Hill offers up-to-the-minute, Live Betting odds. So it is never too late to get in on some action.
David Ferrer, a standout performer in the lead-up to the French Open, is set to begin his campaign in the first round today against David Guez. William Hill is tipping Ferrer a hot favourite at 1/50 to win outright and Guez a significant puppy at 12/1.
If Ferrer taps into anywhere near the form that saw him finish runner-up to Nadal in Rome and reach three semis in Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Madrid, he should cruise past Guez.
Elsewhere, Juan Carlos Ferrero, a former French Open champion, is set to get his bid underway against Pablo Cuevas. Ferrero enjoyed a standout South American clay-court swing earlier this year. He slowed down a bit during the European equivalent but he is no less a threat for it.
Ferrero is a solid favourite to advance over Cuevas; however, Cuevas is a decent dirtballer and therefore this match could go to four sets at the very least.
Lleyton Hewitt receives the honour of opening his campaign on the main court, Court Philippe Chatrier today when he takes on local favourite Jeremy Chardy.
Hewitt is after an injury time out and Chardy is on poor form overall this season. What this means for the quality of the match, I fear to say. Oh, but I will. It makes me believe their encounter will be a rather scrappy affair, with advancement a tossup.
Chardy has the home edge while Hewitt is a grinder through-and-through. Bookies give Hewitt the slightest edge at 10/11 while listing Chardy at mere 4/5 odds. The tight betting line lends value on both sides of the coin.
If I were to play with house money, I would back Hewitt I suppose. I think he has more belief than Chardy does in his game. Chardy winning though would not be a shocker.
Perhaps the most evenly matched affair will be between Benjamin Becker and Denis Istomin. Becker is tipped at 11/10, just long of evens while Istomin is marginally favoured at 4/6.
Backing Becker to the win might be the better value play because when it comes down to grinding, he is one of the best amongst the journeyman players. This match has the markings of a five-set affair.
