ATP MONACO TENNIS BETTING TIPS: NADAL VS. BERRER

Rafael Nadal is chasing history at the ATP Monte Carlo Rolex Masters, gunning for a sixth consecutive title at the prestigious event – an unprecedented feat that hasn’t been accomplished in the Open Era, winning six titles in a row, that is.
Standing in the way of the five-time champion and undisputed King of Clay, Nadal is Michael Berrer of Germany. Berrer, 29, is the proverbial journeyman player. Ranked at No.51 and boasting an underwhelming 42-63 mark lifetime at the ATP level, Berrer is –surprise, surprise – a massive underdog in the outright market to beat Nadal. It goes without saying, Nadal is the untouchable favourite.
William Hill serves up Berrer at large 16/1 odds to mastermind the upset. Nadal is an outrageous 1/100 favourite. These prices alone are enough to discourage moderate tennis bettors and in turn, entice those that live on the edge.
For Berrer to beat Nadal he would have to have the match of his life, a match highlighted by “lights out tennis.” I for one cannot see that coming. And especially not after the clinical performance Nadal treated tennis fans worldwide to when he annihilated Thiemo de Bakker in the second round 6-1, 6-0 in under an hour.
Where the value in this match can be found is in the performance markets. To put a finer point on it: will it be another whitewash affair or will Berrer put forward a respectable account.
Set Betting is one such market that offers Nadal at 1/10 odds to win in straight sets (the most likely outcome, in my humble opinion) and 7/1 odds to win in three sets. Berrer conversely is offered at 25/1 odds to take the straight set victory (not holding my breath) and at 16/1 to win in three sets (still not holding my breath).
My snide parenthesis aside, all these markets are much more reasonable, offering less exposure to risk and relatively attractive returns on your investment.
The Number of Sets in the match irrespective of the player to take each set or the match is trading at 1/12 for 2 sets and 6/1 for three sets.
To take the first set, Nadal is at offers of 1/16 while Berrer carries a 7/1 price.
The actual score of the first set offers additional angles for profit. The 6-2 score in the first set is offered at 3/1 for Nadal and is a good option; a 6-4 score is offered at 9/2, another good alternative option.
Berrer is best priced to take the first set at a score of 6-4, which carries a price of 20/1.
